Celebrating the local music scene

Cologne used to host the annual music industry festival, Popkomm. It's gone elsewhere, but "c/o pop" is filling the gap.

It’s the same as every year, only somehow different this August. The new Cologne music festival is called c/o pop, short for “Cologne on Pop”, and is a complete break from the Popkomm festivals of yesteryear, explain the organisers. “c/o pop’s about the Cologne music scene, about networking what’s already playing, and about enriching our scene with new ideas.”

They have recognised the strength and potential of electronic music in and around Cologne. A host of small labels are cranking it out, becoming trend setters for the rest of Germany. The festival features concerts, parties and DJ sets, along with an electronic media convention.

What’s more, lighting and video artists join in and light up the river Rhine in bright colours. There's also "mem", the music entertainment media fair that presents everything the electronic entertainment industry has to offer – from software to synthesised sound.
