A film about the "Radicals Decree"

Shot in 1976, "Vera Romeyke ist nicht tragbar" is based on incidents that really happened in 1971.

In his first major feature film Max Willutzki provides a case study of a committed schoolteacher that illustrates the consequences of the so-called "Radicals Decree".

Vera is a miner's daughter who strives to bring the working world to life for her pupils. Her teaching soon arouses suspicion in the conservative circles that dominate her small town.

Branded a "radical" and subjected to inquisitorial interrogation, Vera is subsequently transferred to another school elsewhere - despite the demonstrations by parents and pupils in her support.
