Media professor made spokeswoman for NRW's government!

The interface between politics and the media in North Rhine-Westphalia is female from 1 March 2001. For the first time, the state government has a spokeswoman. The new state secretary is called Miriam Meckel.

With a doctorate in media studies, she becomes Germany's youngest professor and comes into the public eye as a television presenter (RTL and WDR) in 1999.

Two years later the state premier, Ministerpräsident bulletWolfgang Clement, brings the 33-year-old into his team. She's the first female to be the official government spokesperson for the State of NRW with state secretary status.

Asked in a TV interview about her new job, she tells bulletWDR talkshow presenter Bettina Böttinger simply that, "One has to try things out." And smiles, revealing 32 perfect pearly white teeth.
