Spex goes down the digital drain!

Chance or necessity? What went wrong? The entire Internet presentation of the Cologne music magazine "Spex" vanishes from its computer.

In summer 2001 every online editor's worst nightmare comes true at Spex, the legendary journal for the sophisticated music fan. During a "routine technical procedure" the magazine's freshly relaunched Internet presentation floats away into cyber nirvana.

"When we reopened the archive," says Carsten Sandkämper, Spex's online manager, "we discovered that the entire data base had been erased, probably due to some unfortunate set of coincidences." No back-ups. No articles at www.spex.de.
